MOD Machine Pricing
Our goal is simple: to offer publishers a new method of delivering video products to customers that:
• saves you time and money
• increases your sales and profitability
• provides your customers with a superior browsing, purchasing and viewing experience
The below schedule is meant to illustrate a typical pricing arrangement for a “virtual DVD” product. MOD Machine’s distribution capabilities are nearly limitless, and many clients choose for Leaping Brain Labs to aid in more than just distribution, so it isn’t possible to provide a blanket pricing schedule for every situation. Please contact us for a custom quote for your specific needs.
What is a “virtual DVD”?
Many products currently sold through MOD Machine are similar to a DVD in content and customer experience. This generally includes:
• an intro animation
• a main menu
• a chapter menu (to jump to any part of the program)
• and, of course, the video content.
Please review our MOD Machine vs. DVD comparison chart here.
Sample MOD Machine pricing schedule:
Product Authoring/Encoding: $95/hour
Distribution Charge: 15% of product sale price
Transaction Processing Fee: 5% of product sale price for products over $15*
*Please contact us for lower-priced products.
Leaping Brain Labs can also accept purchase orders and accommodate site licensing, educational pricing and other exceptions. Publishers set their own prices for every item in their catalog and can even offer items that are free of cost to their customers.
Catalog Design: $95/hour
This is the one-time, up-front charge for creating your custom catalog. Simple customization, such as your logo placed over a solid color or gradient, we would estimate an hour or less. If you would like to have our graphic designers work with your team to create a custom catalog such as the one below, this takes several hours longer.

Product Authoring/Video Encoding: $95/hour
This is the charge for converting your assets into MOD Machine format.
For what we call a “virtual DVD” experience, with an intro animation, main menu and chapter menu, similar to a Hollywood movie DVD, we would estimate 3 or 4 hours to design and create the first title, then 1 – 3 hours for each additional title.
If your product is simpler than a DVD, for example, a single movie that plays in a frame or fullscreen it could be $50 or less per product.
Typical up-front fee comparison per product
| MOD Machine | DVD | Blu Ray disc | |
| first 1,000 | about $75 (if you prep assets) or about $190 (if we do) | $1,000 – $1,500 authoring plus replication |
$7,500 – $10,000 for AACS fees, Blu-Ray authoring, mastering and replication |
| next 1,000 | $0 forever | $1,000 | $3,000 |
| total after 2,000 (1 product) |
$75 – $190 | $2,700 – $4,200 | $10,500 – $13,000 |
| total for 10 products after 2,000 |
$750 – $1900 | $27,000 – $42,000 | $78,000 – $110,000 |
Remember, the above figures do not include the substantial costs of warehouse space, shipping and receiving personnel, shipping supplies, packaging, defective or lost units, and the many other costs of managing physical inventory.
