Chapter list

Here's how to format a list of chapters for a menu in a MOD Machine product

MOD Machine Chapter List Formatting

MOD Machine products can consist of anywhere from a single movie with no chapters to a complex program with hundreds of chapters.

What if I just have a simple product with a single list of chapters?

If you have a simple product with a sequence of chapters, all we need is a list of chapters, like this:

Example A

Intro
Warmup
Workout
Cooldown

What if I have more complex products with chapters organized in various sections?

If you have products that have chapters grouped into sections, then the main headings have a “+” symbol that the user can click on to expand and reveal the list of sub-chapters, like this:

Example B

Intro
+ Warmup

Stretching

+ Workout

Aerobic
Resistance Training
Core Workout

+ Cooldown

Stretching

Outro

Then, you need to notate the section headers with “+” before the chapter name  and a “-” before the sub-chapters.  Here is how Example B above would be notated:

Intro
+Warmup
-Stretching
+Workout
-Aerobic
-Resistance Training
-Core Workout
+Cooldown
-Stretching

What if one of the section headers is a movie and I want it to be playable and expandable?

Let’s say that the “Warmup” section was not just an expandable header, but also a movie that you wanted customers to be able to play.  Perhaps, a movie that talked about the importance of warming up in general, then the subchapter, “Stretching”, actually showed the stretches the instructor wanted you to do.

You would just need to add the “play” notation (“>”) after the header notation.  So here is the revised chapter list notation:

Intro
+>Warmup
-Stretching
+Workout
-Aerobic
-Resistance Training
-Core Workout
+Cooldown
-Stretching

What if I have an extra movie that I don’t wanted listed as a chapter that customers can skip to?

Now, let’s say that you have an extra movie after the “Advanced” chapter of the “Core Workout” section, but you do not want it listed as a chapter and just want it to play after customers finish the Advanced movie.  The chapter listing on the course screen would look like Example C above, but here’s what the notation would look like:

Intro
+>Warmup
-Stretching
+Workout
++>Aerobic
-Beginner
-Advanced
++Resistance Training
-Beginner
-Advanced
++Core Workout
-Beginner
-Advanced
-
+Cooldown
-Stretching

Complete Guide

  1. Put a “+” before any section heading that is not in itself a movie.
  2. Put a “+>” before any section heading that is a playable movie.
  3. Put a “++” before any subchapter that is a section heading.
  4. Put a “++>” before any subchapter heading that is a playable movie.
  5. Put a “-” before the subchapters that are not headings.

You do not need to put any notations before regular chapter listings.

Testimonials

It is much better than I expected. I can just click and there it is. Also, the technical department really helped me when I needed to ask a question and they replied quickly even on a weekend. It is very well done.
